Part I: A Brief Description of the Project
The key problem of practice that I am attempting to overcome is one that faces teachers all the time and every day, how to intervene with students who are falling further and further behind and getting more and more unreachable. This project hopes to not only intervene from the outside, but to cause a change on the inside and get the students to take ownership of their own education. The goal is to use the students' own academic data to open their eyes to their situation, offer options for change, and guide them to take action. In the end, the school as a whole and the individual students will be taken through this Positive Behavior Loop over and over again. It is meant to be an iterated process.
For maximum impact, this process requires the buy-in of both the teachers and the students themselves. It starts with an introduction to the teachers on the two forms of interventions: a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) System and an Early Warning Indicator (EWI) Response System. This is the content of the project. The process in which teachers are introduced to the content and create both the PBIS and EWI Systems reflects the pedagogy of the project. It is the technology used that will make this project a benefit and not a burden to an already overworked staff of teachers and administrators. Where these three interact is where the fun begins.
